Grab a mop
This guy…. I love this guy!
I’m just now catching up on the white house blog. Sure, it’s a lot of propaganda, but it’s probably the best government blog ever.* Ok, so yes it’s dry and I read the titles and usually just delete it, BUT then I read this. When asked about his favorite super heroes by a second grader, Obama replies: “Spiderman and Batman.” You can tell a lot about a person based on their answer to this question, so mad props to that kid, s/he should be on the Press Core STAT! I would have thought (or dreamt) that (like me) he would have said Superman.
Superman is essentially a guy living in a culture that he can never truly be a part of, but that he tirelessly protects in search of love and acceptance.
(Remember for a moment that virtually all old-school super heroes were created by Jews {Kirby, Lee, Kane and Seigal were all Jews}.)
Batman and Spiderman are both essentially guys who could be a part of society, but, because of the death of a father (or father figure) are driven by guilt to protect a society that is unable or unwilling to protect itself from itself.
But doesn’t superman make more sense from a guy like Obama? Outsider/better than average Joe (Plumber/Six Pack)/ x-ray vision? Did he never read comics as a kid? Anyway, way to go kid on getting that answer!
*I have read 0 other government blogs.
Man, have you seen the new white house web page? There’s a new blog and it’s all pretty like. I saw a kottke post about how they removed over 200 lines of code from the old version. I feel like it’s a fitting metaphor for the transition: science is back, hope is back, leadership is back, and I feel like the country (and whitehouse.gov) have upgraded from your grandma’s old Gateway running Windows 95 to a beautiful new Mac book.
